VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Paws and Learn is run entirely by volunteers, and this collaborative effort allows us to educate an average of 14,000 people per year.  If you’re passionate about animals, we’d love your help!  There are a variety of opportunities, and while some require extensive knowledge about animal welfare issues, some simply require a desire to help.  Please email info@pawsandlearn.org for more information about any of the options listed below.  (Note: We do not offer any opportunities to work with live animals.)

Packages:

We provide handouts and all necessary supplies, and volunteers assemble the material into packages that are given to every student we reach.  Help is needed year round and work is done in the volunteer's home.  Time commitment:  volunteer’s choice.

Event Educator:

Assist with public outreach at our educational booths.  Need to be knowledgeable about animal welfare/pet care issues.  Typically available 1 day per month on weekdays (at malls) or weekends (at events).  Time commitment:  4 - 5 hrs per event.

Translator:

1)  Bilingual volunteers needed to translate information at educational booths during public outreach.  Animal welfare knowledge not required.  Time commitment:  4 - 5 hrs per event.

2)  Volunteers also needed to translate educational handouts from English to Spanish.  Work is done from home.  Time commitment:  volunteer’s choice.

Presenter:

1)  Elementary school -  Volunteer will perform up to 4 different presentations per day to pre-k through 5th grade students in the classroom.  Need to be enthusiastic, enjoy working with young children, and capable of memorizing multiple scripts (training is provided).  Requires high physical activity.  Must have reliable transportation and travel throughout L.A. County.  Bilingual speakers a plus, but not required.  Time commitment:  4 – 6 hrs/day, at least 2 days per month, during school hours.  Must commit to 6 – 12 months.

2)  Middle/High School/Adult -  Volunteer will give one powerpoint presentation up to 4 times per day to 6th through 12th grade students, or adults.  Need to be outgoing and enthusiastic, as well as passionate and knowledgeable about animal welfare.  Requires minimal physical activity.  Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout L.A. County.  Time commitment:  1 – 5 hrs/day, 1 day per month.  Must commit to 6 months.

Gift Wrapper:

Each holiday season volunteers have the opportunity to gift wrap items at local bookstores in exchange for donations from customers.  Stores provide supplies, and Paws & Learn keeps 100% of the proceeds.  The more wrappers we have, the more funds we can raise for our programs! Shifts are available all hours on weekdays and weekends in December.  Time commitment:  2 – 4 hrs per shift.
